The first race at the Nürburgring 1000km in May 1964 brought disappointing results, which were repeated three weeks later at Le Mans and for the rest of the season. But in 1965, the team was taken over by racing legend Carroll Shelby, creator of the Cobra, and the GT scored its first win. After further development, the race programme came good in 1966, when the 7.0 litre Mk II cars came 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at Daytona, Sebring and, then, Le Mans.
