Product in Depth

De Agostini ModelSpace brings you the latest technology available on the market and make it easy for you to build your own 3D printer and also print the object you want with our step by step guide. If you can imagine a shape, you can print it with your 3D printer - the idbox!

3D printing is one of the most exciting technological developments of recent years, bringing 3D manufacturing capability within reach of millions of users.

3D printers are great for creating whatever you can design or download, whether it’s a miniature figure, a part for a device or a handy accessory. Check our latest infographic on everyday uses for a 3D printer.

Plan: Before you can print anything out on a 3D printer you need a design. Think of the piece that you want to make. It can be based on a real object or a sketch - it's up to your imagination!

Model: The 3D object is designed on a computer. You can either come up with your own design, using modeling software like AUTODESK 123D, or download an existing design file from one of the many sites on the Internet that offers ready-to-use 3D objects. The information contained in a file describes the size and shape of the object. When you have a design that you want to print out, the information in the file is sent to special 3D printing software that converts the data into instructions that control how the printer deposits the material to make the model.

Print: Once the data is complete, it is output from the PC to the 3D printer. Start the program and wait for the shape to emerge. The model is built up layer by layer starting from the bottom.

Finish: Your three-dimensional artwork has been created! We will show you how to polish the surface or add colour. Add a professional finish to your work!

This is so much more than just a kit, it is a new way of thinking. there is so much potential with 3D printing whether you are just printing models or printing some practical to help you do something. The quality of this printer is top notch and by building the kit as well as watching the parts move through the transparent case you can learn how these great machines work.

Never did I think that it would be possible to be able to one day have a 3D printer in the home. I always thought this technology would be out of reach for many years but this Partwork from DeaGostini has just brought the future of printing to our homes a lot sooner than I could ever have imagined. Easy to follow instructions with a very informative magazine that even teaches you how to programme and design your own 3d items! Does it get any better! Brilliant, just brilliant.

This is something I couldn't resist. The idea of creating some of my own parts for my models whether as enhancements or as replacements just has an appeal all of its own. The challenge of getting to grips with the 3D software, creating my own designs gives way to this becoming a hobby in itself. Thinking of all of the other creations than can be produced outside of model building just make this a very enticing prospect. Really looking forward to this one....

This is not only a partwork I want, it's a partwork I need - and that's the first time I have ever said that! When I started to look around and realized what this little box can do my mind was racing with ideas, making my own scale figures for dioramas, missing or after market model parts etc. A "must have" in my opinion and complete in just 12 months too!
