Presented in January 1979, the Ferrari 312 T4 had the most unlikely and disrespectful nicknames at first. At first it was "the slipper", then "the hippo" or "the duck": all to emphasize in no uncertain terms its not-so-graceful look.
It was Enzo Ferrari who silenced everyone by saying that a car "is beautiful when it wins", and the Ferrari 312 T4 not only won, but became a legend thanks to its drivers.
The 312 T4 made its debut in South Africa, the third race of the year, and thus took part in 13 of the 15 Grand Prix scheduled for that season.
Apparently clumsy and not very elegant, this single-seater, however, guaranteed Jody Scheckter and Gilles Villeneuve an excellent reliability, witnessed by the 6 races they won and, above all, by the first place in the two world championship classifications.
