Product in Depth

Tanks played a leading role in the Second World War. Every country developed armoured vehicles that fought on all fronts of the conflict. This exclusive collection features some of the most representative military vehicles, from the legendary heavy Tiger tanks to the colossal self-propelled tanks like the Elefant and the Sturmtiger, without forgetting innovative tanks like the Soviet T-34 and the highly original Char B1 and M3 Grant. Each model, reproduced to a scale of 1:72 and complete with insignia and camouflage, has been created following rigorous research based on period photos and documents. The result is a collection of great historical value, which offers a complete overview of the armoured vehicles of the main countries that took part in World War II.

Atlas Editions

JAGDPANZER V JAGDPANTHER (SD.KFZ. 173): based on the chassis of the Panther tank, it was armed with a powerful long-barrelled 88mm cannon. The sloped front armour was a particularly effective feature.

PZ.KPFW. III AUSF. G (SD.KFZ. 141): this medium tank was the main vehicle used by German Panzer divisions in the early years of the war. It played a very important role, especially in France in 1940 and in North Africa.

PZ.KPFW. VI TIGER I AUSF. E (SD.KFZ. 181): the most famous heavy tank of the Second World War. It was used with great success by the Germans on all fronts but proved to be effective above all in defence, thanks to its excellent armour and powerful 88mm cannon.

MEDIUM TANK M3 GRANT: made in the United States and also exported to Great Britain and the Soviet Union, this tank had an outdated design with the main armament in the hull and a turret with a 37mm cannon. The version used by the British was called the Grant.

PZ.KPFW. IV AUSF. G (SD.KFZ. 161): the most widely-produced German tank during the war. It was deployed everywhere and was made in progressively improved versions of both armour and armament. The G version had a 75mm cannon and frontal armour 80mm thick.

CRUISER TANK MK VIII CROMWELL IV: the British Cromwell went into action in 1944 after a long period of development and was distinguished by its high speed. The 75mm cannon and only slightly sloped armour were adequate but not optimal.

STURMGESCHÜTZ III AUSF. G (SD.KFZ. 142/1): effective and cheap to build, it was based on the hull of the Panzer III. Without a turret, it featured a powerful 75mm cannon. It offered a good level of protection thanks to its low profile and thick armour.

CRUISER TANK MK VIA CRUSADER: made in Great Britain, it was used to travel at great speed behind enemy lines. Quite successful but not without its flaws, it was deployed above all in North Africa against German and Italian forces.

M26 PERSHING: this heavy tank was the American answer to the German Tiger. Only a few of them went into action before the end of the war and they generally proved to be very effective thanks to the powerful 90mm cannon and good armour-plating.

PANZERJÄGER TIGER (P) ELEFANT (SD.KFZ. 184): designed by Ferdinand Porsche, this gigantic armoured vehicle was powerfully armed, with a long-barrelled 88mm cannon, but on the whole it turned out to be too heavy and unreliable.

STURMMÖRSERWAGEN 606/4 STURMTIGER: based on the heavy Tiger tank, this original armoured vehicle featured a giant 380mm mortar, designed to destroy buildings and fortifications. Only 19 of them were ever built.

JAGDPANZER IV/70 (SD.KFZ. 162): built starting from the hull of the Panzer IV, it was designed to fight enemy tanks. It had a long-barrelled 75mm cannon and good armour-plating. About 2000 of these tanks were produced.

M13/40: standard medium tank of the Italian army during the war, it had characteristics suited only to the early years of the conflict. It was among the main protagonists of the battles in the African desert.

PZ.KPFW. VI AUSF. B TIGER II (SD.KFZ. 182) (PORSCHE TURRET): a successor to the legendary heavy Tiger I tank, the Tiger II had a more powerful cannon and thicker armour than its predecessor. It was built with two different types of turret, Porsche and Henschel.

SOMUA S35: medium French tank, it had a fairly modern design for the time. it fought with honour during the brief French campaign of 1940 against the German forces.

PZ.KPFW. 38(T): a light tank manufactured in Czechoslovakia, the Panzer 38(t) was used in large numbers also in the German armoured divisions until 1941, when it was replaced by more modern tanks.

CHAR B1 BIS: heavy French tank, it had its main armament (a 75mm howitzer) in the hull and a second 47mm cannon in the turret. Despite the considerable firepower, it proved unsuccessful and could not compete with the German tanks.

T-34/76: considered by many to be the best tank of the Second World War, the Soviet T-34 was very fast and had very modern sloping armour. It was produced in versions with 76mm and 85mm cannons.

INFANTRY TANK MK IV CHURCHILL VII: characterized by a fairly original design, the British Churchill proved to be a robust and well-armored vehicle. In the VII version, the cannon was a 75mm gun and the protection was improved.
